Vista 64 - the time has come!

Seems that the tide has turned. For the longest time I - as many other people - have been avoiding to move from XP to Vista. However, judging from the buzz in the blog sphere and the podcast sphere, it seems that Vista is ready.

So I have decided that for my next computer, the operating system will be Vista 64. Speaking of my next computer, it will be a Quadcore, 8 gig machine running Vista 64. The primary purpose of the computer will be to edit photographs.

Some motivating reasons:

  • Recently I upgraded to Lightroom 2. On my mac, (mac book pro) Lightroom in 64-bit mode runs so fast. On my PC, running in 32-bit mode, it is so so slow. Since Lightroom is my primary tool for editing and managing photographs now I will have a program that will take advantage of this new platform.
  • Image sizes are getting bigger. Reportedly, Nikon's D3x will be 24 Mpixel camera; I shoot with a D2x which is 12 Mpixel camera so I have some time. But still the images are big.
